Madison For Everyone: A Design Framework
The Oak Park Project
The context for this Fall 2022 studio was a 1.5 miles-long stretch of Madison Street between Harlem and Austin, in Oak Park, IL. While the street contains many vacant parcels, it has also witnessed several recent developments in the form of multi-story retail, mixed-income residential units, and office space. The studio developed an urban design framework plan as the link between current conditions and a future vision. Through multiple site visits and engagements with community members and decision-makers, detailed analysis was translated into tactical and policy initiatives, as well as ambitious design concepts aimed towards the community’s short- and long-term enhancement.
