Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement

Capitol Hill Washington DC

The Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement (IPCE) is a ‘hub’ for individuals, communities, and organizations connecting with and learning about civic engagement at UIC, in Chicago, and across the country. IPCE focuses on transforming democracy by creating a more fully engaged community with more effective leaders. As a catalyst for learning and action, the Institute creates opportunities for scholars, students, community members and government officials to actively participate in social discourse, research, and educational programs on policy issues and social trends. The IPCE team conducts internally-directed research, produces reports and briefs alongside community partners, and shares resources with UIC faculty members through our competitive Civic Engagement Research Awards. The topics of IPCE research include effective strategies for informing and engaging the public in democracy, providing opportunities for youth, college students, and adults to develop leadership skills, and government responsivity to public input.
