UTC Releases New Report On Railroad Crossings In Two Chicago Suburbs

Riverdale and Dolton

Dolton and Riverdale are two suburbs south of Chicago that contain a significant number of railroad grade crossings. In a just-finalized research report, "Quiet Zone Study for Dolton and Riverdale," researchers at the Urban Transportation Center led by Director Dr. P.S. Sriraj analyzed 10 at-grade highway crossings in order to identify ways to reduce the number of required train horn blasts and improve safety for pedestrians and motorists. Also, the UTC completed “Freight Planning for the Dolton and Riverdale Gateway: Grade Separation,” a study that analyzed 10 at-grade rail highway crossings and the potential for grade separation.
