UPP’s Professor Betancur Provides Perspective in Pilsen Documentary
John Betancur, professor of Urban Planning and Policy, participated in the recently released, “Pilsen in Grey,” documentary created by six Benito Juarez Community Academy seniors in 2019. The documentary focusses on gentrification in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood and includes comments from community members, residents, government representatives, and educators, including Betancur.
Irvin Ibarra, producer of the documentary, said Betancur’s work “was the stepping stone we needed as then-high school students trying to understand the complexities of this issue of gentrification and the thin connections with other systemic and political issues.”
