UPP Head Nik Theodore, co-authored Crain’s Chicago Op-ed on Releasing Non-Violent Inmates
In a co-authored op-ed published by Crain’s Chicago Business, Nik Theodore, UIC professor and head of urban planning and policy, calls on authorities to release all of Cook County’s non-violent inmates over the age of 50 and anyone with heightened health vulnerabilities, including pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses. Theodore adds that punishments for not adhering to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders should be dropped and that the City of Chicago needs to take measures to assist “informal workers” who continue working and risk exposure to coronavirus to avoid a complete loss of income. https://bit.ly/2KaLRNV (subscription may be required)
