Rob Paral of GCI Quoted in Chicago Tribune Article on Chicago’s Declining Population

Senior Research Specialist of the Great Cities Institute Rob Paral was quoted in a recent story in theĀ Chicago Tribune. The story was on newly released US Census estimates that found Chicago lost nearly 3% of its population between 2020 and 2022. Although the Census Bureau's methods have recently come under fire for potentially underestimating certain populations, the decline fits into larger trends that have seen retirees and young professionals leaving the Midwest for rapidly growing cities in the South.
