Professor Amanda Lewis Featured in WBEZ Story Marking 10 Years Since Chicago Closed 50 Public Schools
Ten years ago, fifty Chicago public schools were closed in a controversial move by the administration of then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel due to under enrollment. In the years since, according to a Sun-TimesĀ and WBEZ analysis, predominantly Black neighborhoods surrounding schools that were closed have experienced larger population declines than those around schools that remained open.
