Kate Lowe Quoted In Block Club Chicago On Uber, Lyft Charging More For Riders Going To Non-White Neighborhoods
Kate Lowe, UIC associate professor of urban planning and policy, is quoted in a Block Club Chicago story about a George Washington University study that suggests Uber and Lyft charge higher prices for riders being dropped off in predominately non-white neighborhoods of Chicago. Lowe says the findings align with other social science research that find “market mechanisms are often going to reflect and reinforce structural racism. She also notes that these ride-hailing companies can have an important role in expanding transportation access for residents of non-white neighborhoods and low-income households. https://bit.ly/2Nwqo3F (subscription may be required)
