Dr. Joshua Drucker Featured by WBEZ on Chicago’s Plan to Regulate Dollar Stores
UPP professor Dr. Joshua Drucker was featured in a WBEZ article this past Friday on an ordinance currently being considered by Chicago City Council that would limit the number of "small-box" dollar stores in the city. The ordinance was prompted by concerns about the proliferation of these "small-box" stores, which are prone to staffing and maintenance issues and fail to contribute to long-term economic growth in a community. However, as Joshua Drucker and several members of the community acknowledge, these stores are some of the few retail businesses that are willing to open in certain neighborhoods and "can alleviate shopping deserts of various sorts."
