Three Specialty Programs in Top 15

UIC's College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) continues to earn high marks for its graduate programs, most recently in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Graduate Schools rankings.

The rankings, released April 9, evaluated programs in various disciplines such as business, education, law and nursing. Several UIC programs in additional to CUPPA's were ranked among the top 20 in the country in their respective fields.

CUPPA specialty programs ranked sixth in urban policy, eighth in public finance, and 13th in local government management. Overall, CUPPA ranked 34th nationally, up two spots from 2023.

"Undoubtedly, these positive trajectories in our rankings are a reflection of the many important contributions by our faculty to the fields of policy, management, public finance, civic analytics, and urban affairs. We are frequent authors of the leading scholarship and our research and teaching paves the way for others to follow. I am indeed proud of this recognition of our work and what the future holds for our department and college at UIC,” said Deborah Carrol, head of CUPPA's Public Policy, Management, and Analytics Department.

"The UIC CUPPA faculty are among their fields’ most prolific in conducting and sharing research that builds just, resilient, and livable communities. Our alumni are the agents leading positive, compassionate, and sustainable action in cities across the globe. The U.S. News and World Report rankings are one way to recognize and celebrate this vital work,” said Stacey Swearingen White, dean of CUPPA.

Not all programs are ranked yearly, although the U.S. News Best Graduate Schools publication and website present the most recent rankings for every program.
