Download iCal FileCities across the world are different not only because of how they look, but also because of how they are governed.Varying historic trajectories, diverse cultural expectations and different degrees of administrative stringency and accountability transform the specific process and products through which cities grow, by what means and to what ends. Additionally, the very actors that shape cities and the very priorities that underlie their efforts are different across nations and societies.
Reflecting upon 25 years of professional work in the fields of city design and urban planning, shaped by diverse cultural contexts including those of United States, India, Panama, China, Japan, and Egypt, this talk by Vinayak Bharne, Principal and Director of Design, and Adjusct Professor, USC School of
Architecture, will illustrate how pragmatic urban design/planning practice constantly adapts, negotiates and improves while seeking creative compromises as it transverses varying terrains across our rapidly urbanizing planet.
Co-sponsored by the Masters in City Design Program, Department of Urban Planning and Policy.
