Enjoy an easy-paced (~11:00 min/mile), 3-mile point-to-point run through three sub-markets of the Loop inspired by Dr. Rachel Weber’s award-winning book, From Boom to Bubble. Along the way, she will describe the financial origins of some of the Loop’s most famous skyscrapers as well as the relocation of the city’s premier office district from LaSalle Street to Wacker Drive to Fulton Market. She will discuss the struggles faced by downtowns in the wake of Covid.
Here are all the details:
MEET: Meet at 10 am on Sunday, September 10 outside of the Chicago Board of Trade Building, 141 West Jackson (Google Maps Link here).
ROUTE: Runners will follow an easy-paced (~11:00 min/mile), 3-mile point-to-point route following important sites featured in Rachel’s book. The running tour will last around 1.5 hours. IMPORTANT: The end of the run is 1.6 miles northwest of the starting location. At the end of the run, you can ride share, divvy, or take public transportation to the start of the route if needed.
OPTIONAL PREPARE: Because this is a tour, reading the book ahead of time is optional. We encourage you to borrow a copy from your local branch of the Chicago Public Library (here's how to get a card if you don't have one). If you prefer to purchase, please order from the University of Chicago Press website here. Use code READRUN30 for 30% off.
POST-RUN: Rachel will join runners for a casual, post-run discussion and social hour at Time Out Market, 916 W Fulton (Google Maps link here). If you loved the book and prefer to skip the run, plan to meet Rachel and the runners here around 10:30-11am.
All registered runners will receive reminder details two days and four hours prior to the event. This event has limited spots.
