Please join the Greater Lawndale Healthy Work Project and Radical Public Health at UIC for their forum: Deeply Rooted: Disrupting Community Violence Using Abolitionist Principles of Friday, November 10th.
Join us as we hear panelists discuss different yet interconnected forms of violence
- The dehumanizing treatment of recent asylum seekers
- Violence against street vendors in Little Village
- Negligence around missing and murdered women, girls, femmes, trans, and gender non-conforming Black, Indigenous, People of Color
- The racist countering violent extremism surveillance framework
Panelists will share their critical analysis, make connections between political struggles against the prison industrial complex, and discuss abolitionist-principled strategies that address the root causes of violence.
Following the panel discussion attendees will join breakout groups to discuss opportunities to work together and address the root causes of community violence. The event will conclude with a community dinner and raffle. Please note that the panel will be the only portion of the event that will be offered virtually via Zoom.

- Resource fair: information about local grassroots and campus violence prevention efforts
- Care station: goodies to take home such as rad coloring pages and teas. An MPH/MSW community scholar will also be available to hold space for attendees who may need emotional support.
