The Area is a searing documentary exposing the land grab in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood where the Norfolk Southern Railroad seeks to expand its intermodal freight terminal into an area whose residents have few resources. The Area opens August 23 and will be returning for a two week-run in September (14 - 27).
Detroit 48202 follows Detroit mailman, Wendell Watkins who serves as an amiable guide to the rise, fall and recent resurgence of Black working-class culture in his city, traversing a sprawling zip-code of well maintained homes, abandoned business, and vacant lots. Detroit 48202 opens August 24 followed by a second screening August 26. All screenings will take place at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
Friday 8/24: Director Pam Sporn is scheduled to appear for audience discussion with Stacey Sutton, Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and Policy at UIC.
