Chicago’s Plan for Transformation and Choice at Year 25: Where are They Now?

The Voorhees Center’s April Jackson, associate professor of Urban Planning and Policy, Dr. Amy Khare, research director, National Initiative on Mixed Income Communities at Case Western Reserve University, Shafaat Nawaz, doctoral candidate of Urban Planning and Policy, Derick Anderson, doctoral candidate of Urban Planning and Polic, and Yittayih Zelam, director of the Voorhees Centers recent report entitled, “Chicago’s Plan for Transformation and Choice at Year 25: Where are They Now? has just been released.

The report offers a detailed examination of the Plan for Transformation (PFT) in Chicago, with each chapter of the report focusing on different aspects of the initiative’s implementation, challenges, and impacts. The report also examines the Choice NeighborhoodsInitiative in Woodlawn, as a model for future mixed-income communities. The overall goal of the report is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the PFT during the periods of 2000 to 2025 so that future efforts may lead to better outcomes for people and neighborhoods.
