The Master of City Design in the Department of Urban Planning and Policy is happy to announce a Brown Bag Lunch Lecture on November 5th at 12:30pm, where Dr. Aseem Inam, Professor and Chair in Urban Design, Cardiff University, UK, and Director, TRULAB: Laboratory for Designing Urban Transformation, will present, on "Co-Designing Publics."
Cities across the globe are grappling with mounting challenges—urban inequality, failing infrastructure, the climate crisis, and growing threats to democracy. In response to these pressing concerns, Dr. Inam introduces the groundbreaking concept of "co-designing publics," exploring the dynamic intersection between the public realm and informal urbanisms.
By reimagining public spaces as both spatial and political networks and acknowledging the often overlooked informalities of urban life, Dr. Inam offers fresh insights into how publics are co-created around shared concerns. With a focus on cities of the global south, he brings forward critical case studies and examples from the Co-Designing Publics International Research Network, revealing how these ideas are shaping more just and democratic urban futures.
Don’t miss this engaging presentation on the transformative power of co-designing publics and their potential for fostering radical urban change.
