MCD Gallery

The Master of City Design program offers immersive design experience as well as many opportunities for students to make professional connections with leading practitioners in Chicago and beyond.

  1. MCD students and faculty accepting the Illinois American Planning Association Student Project Award for the Spring Great Cities and Summer Chicago Charrette Studios, “Think Like a City: A Framework Plan for Remaking Places.”
  2. MCD students and faculty visit the west loop and downtown on a walking tour of Millenium Park, Art Institute, Lakeshore East, and other prominent locations in the central business district.
  3. MCD students visit McKinley Park with faculty, students, and McKinley Park Development Council. Community partners took us on a walking tour of McKinley Park where we had lunch at Chile Torreados.
  4. MCD students visit the Boston office of Sasaki during our 2024 spring break trip to study medical districts. We took various tours of design firm offices – Dennis Pieprz shared Sasaki’s ongoing medical district work with students.
  5. During the summer Chicago Charrette, we had guest speaker Caroline O’Boyle from Trust for Public Land sharing their work on the 606 Trail, Great Migration Trail and host of projects and community engagement strategies.
  6. MCD students, Design Workshop, IPCE, and IMD stakeholders participated in a design charrette to better understand what the community wants to see in the IMD around transit mobility.
  7. MCD students, faculty, and McKinley Park Development Council and stakeholders participating in engagement activities during out Open House at Mariposa, a local community space in McKinley Park.
  8. MCD students, Design Workshop, IPCE, and IMD stakeholders participated in a design charrette to better understand what the community wants to see in the IMD around preferred density.
  9. MPDC stakeholders took MCD students and faculty on a neighborhood tour of gathering and community spaces in McKinley Park to understand the need for multi-purpose outdoor spaces.
  10. MCD students, faculty, and IMD stakeholders delivered two days of pop up events at the IMD Gateway to better understand user preferences about what they want to see in the IMD.
  11. MCD students and faculty went on a tour with Phil Enquist and Urban Rivers of the Wild Mile to learn more about the planning and implementation process of the first floating eco-park in Chicago along the North Branch Canal.
  12. MCD students, MPDC, community partners, and residents at the final showcase and community conversation for the Chicago Charrette. Students presented final design concepts and delivered focus groups to get resident feedback on design proposals.
  13. MCD students and faculty went on a tour of the OJB office in Boston during their spring break trip. OJB shared their work on medical districts and hosted MCD for lunch, lecture, and tour.
